Web design
The Internet is the information, social and transaction medium that is used by all age groups in business and in their daily routine. Surveys show the Internet ranks third right after health issues and vacation & travel in the list of things people between the age of 14 and 64 are interested in the most (before education, books, sports, politics, consumer electronics, etc.) [source: Allensbach 2009].
For product manufacturers and service providers, websites are especially important, because the Internet is the most relevant medium for consumers' purchasing decisions. TV is only half as relevant according to the survey "Digital Influence Index Study" by Harris Interactive - conducted on behalf of Fleishman Hillard. Purchasing decisions, for e.g., travel or technical goods, are increasingly researched on the web.

User behaviour
The Internet and its users became more sophisticated/demanding in recent years. “Good” and “not so good” web design is being recognized more often, regardless of pretty pictures or more or less sophisticated animations.
Nowadays users expect well-structured and user-friendly information (information design). The pressure on providers is increasing, since only 15 % of all users between the age of 14 and 64 find it hard to get the information they need on the web. [source: IfD Allenbach 2009]. Users at least know what they “don’t want”. If they can’t get what they want from one provider, they will get it from its competitors.
Functional Requirements
There is no better medium than the Internet to tailor goods and services specifically to the most promising target group. There is the group that wants to get to their information quickly, they want their information well structured, easy to understand and properly prepared for immediate use. The other group is in search for entertainment, distraction as well as a social dimension. In each case the offer needs to match the particular requirements.
People rarely belong to only one of these groups but rather prefer the one to the other depending on time and circumstances. The Internet is the medium where the audience finds the content – even though it happens that your audience finds your content through Google ads on the SERP or via display banners on news sites.
